ESM4 DIVIDED BY ONE

Since their first album intitled “Telepathic Waves”, Jeremie and Thomas opted from a comfortable synth pop beginning in 2023, ESM's sound naturally evolved into more contemplative directions with “Hierarchies of Angels” (2024), the urge to retain their ingrained hallmarks melodies was calculated and planned out meticulously. Immediately on the heels of that album came last year “Imperfect Silence” (2025) after having signed with US label Progrock.com.essentials. ESM charted new territories with saxophone on every track, maintaining melodic content and honing their style. Uncontented to keep the same path and take some well-deserved time off, ESM has now evolved for the upcoming album into a quartet , featuring Hansford Rowe on bass and guitarist Alain Bellaiche, both having guested at various times on the previous two albums.

Along comes another musical spider and lo and behold, a new fourth album is in the oven , set for release June 5th ,2026, this new project promises to forge beyond previous boundaries, blending our signature enigmatic soundscapes with valiant new elements that reflect our growth as a musical entity. Texturally way more diverse, energetic and cinematographic than ever before, ESM has now incorporated traditional progressive elements into the mixture, with edgy guitars galore, sonic variations, voluptuous melodies and a few winks to prog royalty. The overall musical direction has shifted into a more threatening expanse, where a sense of darkness is challenged by the will to overcome all obstacles.

First single and video to be released April 17 is a remake of the classic Gary Numan song, “Are Friends Electric?”

Sterling guests are also on board for this next adventure: The stunning voice of Laura Piazzai ( Imaginaerium, Clive Nolan and Massimo Pieretti, among many others), the versatile Steve Bonino (Red32, Steve Bonino) playing electric guitars and the dazzling Swiss solo artist Roland Buhlmann on electric guitar. As well as the unique voice of Jeremie's daughter Anna Arrobas (Anna Arrobas, G.I Jinx).

ENIGMATIC SOUND MACHINES      IMPERFECT SILENCE (2025)

For this third album, Enigmatic Sound Machines has been signed on the ProgRock.com Essentials label, as well as working with Bad Dog Promotions in getting the word out. Imperfect Silence was released on August 1, 2025, available both on Bandcamp and Progrock.com essentials.

ADVISORY : Should anyone wish to maintain the enigmatic aura ESM may possess, we urge you to immediately desist from further reading and just look away.

For those remaining who may be ravaged by obsessive curiosity in what makes ESM so …enigmatic , well , we do aim to please. Because Jeremie composes instinctively as well as rapidly, in his home studio , we waste little time in senseless procrastination, so when we get ideas, we act on it immediately. In fact, everything we do, from A to Z: artwork, lyrics, instrumental insertions, stylistic variations, concept guidelines and long-term planning is meticulously thought out well in advance. In the course of our 3-year existence, we have possibly set not more than 3 tracks aside for future evaluation or possible reworking. Every arrangement thus stays fresh and vibrant, often needing only slight alterations or tweaked improvements before adding on the textured layers of sound that our machines can make.

Jeremie and Thomas started working on their third album having decided to venture even further down the prog path, moving away from previous multi-level stylistics into a more homogenous instrumental sound.  They decided on eight full-sized tracks, for an hour’s worth of music, that has evolved into where we wanted to go from the very beginning. We reached out to Rob Harrison, a guitar and sax maestro, who has enthusiastically added saxophone and flute throughout the album. They decided to feature the return of legendary prog/fusion bassist Hansford Rowe (Gong, Gongzilla, HR3 and many more) as well as guitarist Alain Roig. Finally, we also invited French guitarist Alain Bellaiche (Heldon, Richard Pinhas etc…).

Infusing a higher level of symphonics in each track was our aim with increased layers of mellotron, lush string orchestrations, overt electric guitars, and percussives of all kinds, in constructing pieces that had purpose, melody and enough transitional qualities to keep every listener stimulated, with a vast arsenal of details that will make repeated listens even more adventurous. The themes that were chosen were very much the sign of our times, a tired world of endless confusion, stress, depression, hardship, fear and ultimately, hope for a better future.

ENIGMATIC SOUND MACHINES - IN PERFECT SILENCE - YouTube is the opening instrumental track on what will introduce an 8-piece concept opus, that interfaces with one another, both musically and lyrically as well. More videos will follow.

ENIGMATIC SOUND MACHINES                                       The HIERARCHIES OF ANGELS  (2024)

Based in Montreal, Canada, ENIGMATIC SOUND MACHINES is a retro-futuristic project, the brainchild of two childhood friends with a common love for music, philosophy, and the arts.

Jeremie Arrobas is a founding member of Men Without Hats, a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, writer, composer, arranger, and producer. Creator of hundreds of audio, video, and visual arts projects.

Thomas Szirmay is a musicologist, researcher, producer, arranger, and writer. Specialist in progressive rock, jazz-fusion and electronic, and has written over 1600 reviews on internet platforms Prog Archives, House of Prog as well as a FB page called Prog Rogue.

We started working on the sophomore release “The Hierarchies of Angels” immediately after releasing our debut on September 1, 2023, contemplating the framework for composing within an even more progressive approach. This came about as it was obvious to both of us that Jeremie had hit a level of creative inspiration that was unparalleled in his long history of composing. Thomas kept challenging Jeremie to aspire to consider longer arrangements, gradually pushing for extended instrumentals, which were so rapidly successful that it was decided to keep three of them for Hierarchies and really up the ante musically and conceptually. We also decided to feature some impressive guest talent, namely the legendary prog/fusion bassist Hansford Rowe (Gong, Gongzilla, HR3 and many more), as well as two guitarists Shane Hoy (The Dylans) and Alain Roig.

We opted to provide two alternate song positioning; the songs unchanged just reorganized differently in order to appeal to a wider variety of fans. One is the general edition:

Killswitch

You Want

Something Evil

Blurred

It's a Lie

Inside Nowhere

Walking Through Walls

The Preacher (featuring The Sermon)

After the Flood (instrumental)

When You Suffer

Stand…Fall

The Hierarchies of Angels (instrumental)

And a second, more progressive rock inclined version in terms of flow, where the tracks are split into 2 chapters:

Chapter 1 the Morning

The Hierarchies of Angels (instrumental)

Inside Nowhere

Blurred

After the Flood (instrumental)

Walking Through Walls

Kill Switch

Chapter 2 the Night

You Want

Something Evil

The Preacher (featuring The Sermon)

It's a Lie

Stand…Fall

When You Suffer

Chapter 1 begins with the instrumental title track, as a desolate caravan navigates the broiling torrid desert, flowing into “Inside Nowhere”, detailing the valiant search for an

oasis of salvation. “Blurred” suggests endless visual hallucinations and fatalistic hope, segueing perfectly into “Walking Through Walls”, a claustrophobic illusion of perdition. When all else fails miserably, we shut it all down by mercifully hitting the “Kill Switch”, a bulldozer of energized futility. The legendary Hansford Rowe provides athletic bass guitar on all of these tracks, save the opener.

Chapter 2 provides a set of 6 electronic rock pieces that take aim at the evils of the mad world we currently live in, where nothing is anymore what it seems, especially when fuelled by the sensation-driven media. Subject themes are greed on the powerful “You Want” with inspiration from Talk Talk, the power of the devil on the stark “Something Evil” and its Dr. John feel recalling ‘Are We in the Right Place’, blending perfectly with “The Preacher” where salvation is proposed but at a corrupt price (check out the Sermon from ‘Reverend’ Thomas!), with a cool rock ‘n roll Jerry Lee Lewis feel. Apathy and deception is the focus on the otherwise suave and hypnotic “It’s a Lie”, leading to a miraculous metamorphosis on “Stand ...Fall” with its playful Mini-Moog rant and an oft repeated conclusion on the human condition. The light that illuminates the way to redemption is finally found on the troubled “When You Suffer” as the velvet curtain comes down.
